Sharing a Markdown note with someone on another platform
Loam is in development. Join the waitlist to hear when it opens.
To share a Markdown note across platforms, both people need an app on their own device that edits the same note. Loam has apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. Invite someone as an editor, commenter or viewer, and editors see each other's changes as they type, with comments and a version history you can restore from.
Steps
- Open the note and choose Share.
- Invite people by email and pick a role for each: editor, commenter or viewer. You can also send a share link.
- Write together. Each person gets a coloured caret with their name, and lines with someone on them show a small avatar in the margin.
- Select text to comment on it and @mention someone to notify them.
The note stays standard Markdown with GitHub-style tables and task lists.
Questions
Do both people need Loam Pro?
Real-time collaboration and comments are part of Loam Pro, US$2.99 a month or US$29.99 a year. Loam is free on one device.
Can someone only comment, without changing the text?
Yes. Each person gets a role on a note. Editors change the text, commenters add comments and viewers read.
What if someone changes something by mistake?
Loam keeps versions as you work. You can name important versions and restore any of them as a new version, so nothing is lost.
